The Federal Skilled Trades Program, one of the three programs within Canada’s express entry system, is for skilled workers who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade.
FST Program Requirements
Work Experience – At least 2-year (24 months) of continuous, full time (or equal amount in part time experience) work experience in a skilled trade within the last 5 years
*Experience classified under NOC major group 72, 73, 82, 92, 632 and 633
Language Proficiency – Minimum of level 4 Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) on an approved English* or French+ language test
*Approved language tests include CELPIP and IELTS.
+Approved French language tests include Test d’Évaluation de Français (TEF) and Test de co naissance du français pour le Canada (TCF Canada).
Education – There is no minimum education requirements for FTW, but you get additional points for a Canadian high school diploma or the equivalent in foreign education.
Financial Support – Enough funds to support themselves* and any spouse+ and/or children+ in settlement in Canada.
Residence in Canada – Must intend to live in any province of Canada except Quebec*.
*If you intend to settle in Quebec refer PNP section
Additional Qualifications – have a valid job offer of full-time employment for a total period of at least 1 year or a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade issued by a Canadian provincial, territorial, or federal authority
